Privacy policy
In short
- You don't need an account, and we never ask for your name or email to use the site.
- We use Google Analytics to see which pages are useful. Its cookies are only set if you click Accept in our cookie banner.
- Donations go through Buy Me a Coffee, not through this site.
- We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who we are
Wildsforge (wildsforge.org) is a free, fan-made website with calculators and guides for RuneScape: Dragonwilds. It is run by an individual in the United Kingdom and is not affiliated with Jagex.
For this website, Wildsforge is the "data controller" under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). You can contact us about anything in this policy at wildsforge@gmail.com.
What we collect and why
1. Analytics (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, for example which guides people read and which pages are hard to find. This helps us decide what to improve and what to write next. Google Analytics collects:
- the pages you visit, how long you stay and how you arrived (for example from a search engine)
- your device type, browser, operating system and screen size
- your approximate location (country or city), worked out from your IP address
- a random identifier stored in a cookie, so repeat visits can be counted
Google Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses. We can't see who you are from this data, and we don't try to identify individual visitors.
Cookies only with your consent. Google Analytics cookies are switched off until you click Accept in our cookie banner. If you click Reject or ignore the banner, Google Analytics may still receive basic, cookie-free signals that a page was viewed (Google calls this Consent Mode). These can't be linked to you across visits and are used only for overall visit counts.
Legal basis: your consent for analytics cookies; our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used for the cookie-free signals. You can change your choice at any time (see Cookies).
2. Server logs (our web host)
Like almost every website, our host, Hostinger, automatically records basic technical information when your browser requests a page: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, and your browser type. These logs are used to keep the site secure and working, and are kept for a limited time by Hostinger.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website.
3. Donations (Buy Me a Coffee)
If you choose to support us, you leave wildsforge.org and pay on Buy Me a Coffee. Your payment details are handled by Buy Me a Coffee and its payment providers, and we never see your card details. Buy Me a Coffee shares with us the details it shows creators, such as the name and message you choose to leave, the amount and, depending on your settings there, your email address. We use these only to see and thank supporters, and we never pass them on.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in managing donations, and any legal obligation to keep financial records.
4. If you email us
If you contact us, we'll use your email address and message only to reply, and delete them when they're no longer needed.
What we don't do
- We have no user accounts, logins, comment sections or forms.
- Our calculators run entirely in your browser. The settings you enter are never sent to us.
- We don't use advertising, tracking pixels or social media trackers.
- We don't sell, rent or trade personal data.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. When you first visit, we ask whether you're happy for us to use Google Analytics cookies. They're only set if you click Accept. You can change your mind at any time with the link at the bottom of every page; choosing Reject also deletes any Google Analytics cookies already set.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Tells repeat visits apart from new ones | 2 years |
_ga_DQDH56DJ6J | Google Analytics | Keeps track of the current visit | 2 years |
wf-consent | Wildsforge | Remembers your cookie choice so we don't ask on every page. Stored in your browser's local storage, not sent to us. Strictly necessary, so no consent is needed. | Until you clear your browser data |
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site will work exactly the same without them. You can also stop Google Analytics on every website with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
Buy Me a Coffee sets its own cookies on its own website; see its privacy policy for details.
Who we share data with
We only share data with the services that make the site work:
- Google (Google Analytics): Google's privacy policy
- Hostinger (web hosting): Hostinger's privacy policy
- Buy Me a Coffee (donations, only if you choose to donate): Buy Me a Coffee's privacy policy
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
International transfers
Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where that happens, they rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK–US "data bridge" or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep data
- Analytics: no longer than 14 months, the maximum Google Analytics allows for this kind of data, after which it's deleted automatically.
- Server logs: for the limited period set by Hostinger.
- Donation records: as long as needed for our records and any legal requirements.
- Emails: until your question is dealt with, unless we need to keep them longer for a good reason.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct or delete it
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent
- ask for your data in a portable format, where that applies
To use any of these rights, email wildsforge@gmail.com. We'll reply within one month. Because we don't collect names or accounts, we may need some details from you (such as the date of a donation) to find your information.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to sort it out first, though.
Children
Wildsforge is a general-audience site and isn't aimed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if the way we handle data changes, for example if we add a new service. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
